Female Victim Knifed in Birmingham City Bus Stop Assault Succumbs to Injuries

A woman who was stabbed in the neck during a random assault at a bus stop within Birmingham has died, police have confirmed.

The deceased woman, who was 34, was targeted in Smallbrook Queensway, right beside the Bullring shopping centre, just prior to 21:00 GMT Friday evening, West Midlands Police said.

Djeison Rafael, 21, was presented at Birmingham court on Monday, facing charges for the violent incident.

Originally charged with attempted murder however after the woman's death charges were upgraded to include murder.

Law Enforcement Actions

The force said officers would be around the city centre on Monday providing public assurance, while detectives assisted the woman's family.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses who may have seen Mr Rafael, who is described as a Black British national, reportedly dressed in grey athletic wear, dark headwear, athletic shoes with a backpack.

Attack Site Details

The stabbing happened near Bullring retail complex, opposite primary access point to Birmingham New Street station.

Law enforcement confirmed they were treating it as a random violent act and Det Insp James Nix said efforts continue to determine the motive behind.

Eyewitness Reports

An area worker, who works nearby, described the emergency response when she finished her shift around 10 PM on Friday.

She characterized the location as extremely disorderly, adding that some of her colleagues heard loud disturbances at about 21:00.

"A lot of co-workers take public transport, take the tram... our security is compromised fundamentally, in the downtown area."

Ashley Birks, twenty-five, from Stoke-on-Trent, mentioned visiting the city fairly regularly visiting his partner resident there, expressing concern regarding the incident.

"It makes me worried about my partner," he stated.

"She doesn't drive and works at all of the big music venues... considering something completely unprovoked [happened], understandably, it's terrible."
