The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination unveiled the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. It was showcased in a special Nintendo Direct that centered on the soon-to-release cartoon movie.
The sequel to the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this latest chapter will send Mario to the outer limits of the galaxy. In his journey, he meets a fresh princess character and a powerful new opponent in Bowser Jr., the offspring of the Koopa King.
Similar to the games from the Wii period that act as its source material, Mario will venture away from the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to travel across the galaxy. Throughout his extensive trek, he will encounter once more some familiar faces, for instance the Luma, a popular character from the original cinematic release.
But it appears Mario and his brother Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who seemingly wields metal-based powers. Worth mentioning, the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not only concentrated on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also contains hints to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
The feature will welcome back of the initial voice actors, featuring Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will voice Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to represent Bowser Jr. It was announced by the CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri.
Mario's latest cinematic adventure is set to release close to the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. game. In addition to the movie, 2026 is shaping up to be a significant year for Mario and his companions.
Nintendo has three new games already confirmed for the upcoming year, such as Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a new Yoshi platformer titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is planned for launch on April 3, 2026.
